Generative Artificial Intelligence Skills in Schools workshop

The workshop will report on the results of GenAISiS, a project funded by Responsible AI and delivered by a team of researchers at Robert Gordon University in partnership with CILIPS (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in Scotland) and school library professionals across Scotland.

During the workshop, we will present the data collected from secondary school students via practical activities, questionnaires and focus groups that explored their engagement, experiences and feelings around Generative Artificial Intelligence. Part of the presentation will include a screening of a video cartoon story co-created with young people, which addresses the experiences they shared. The presentation will also showcase a co-produced open educational toolkit that features a range of activities and resources for schools. Our aim is to welcome local schools and other key education stakeholders, gathering their feedback on the tools and content presented on the day.

Who Owns the Future? Reimagining Education from AI to Abundant Imagination

This public lecture, hosted by the Centre for Research in Digital Education, is part of the Stewart Alan Robertson Lecture Series funded by the Robertson Endowment.

From automated decision systems in healthcare, policing, education and more, technologies have the potential to deepen discrimination while appearing neutral and even benevolent when compared to harmful practices of a previous era. In this talk, Ruha Benjamin takes us into the world of biased bots, altruistic algorithms, and their many entanglements, and provides conceptual tools to decode tech predictions with historical and sociological insight.

Generative AI & Assessment

This webinar featuring international AI consultant and author Leon Furze, explores how recent advances in GenAI have exposed the vulnerabilities in existing assessment methods, and offers proactive ideas and practical strategies for addressing the technology in classrooms.

Since the release of ChatGPT in 2022, Generative Artificial Intelligence has developed rapidly, including in mathematical reasoning, image recognition and generation, and other domains. This makes online assessment problematic in many contexts. In 2023, Furze first introduced the AI Assessment Scale (AIAS) to help educators and students work together in understanding appropriate use. It has since been adopted by schools worldwide and featured by UNESCO. The session will include a discussion of the AIAS and examples for different disciplines.
